Letter From Mayor about 5K/ 100 Miles

Dear Metro Employees,

This summer thousands of Nashvillians, including many of you, participated in our “Walk 100 Miles” health challenge. To keep the momentum going, I’m hosting a free 5K walk/run on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. starting at the Public Square Park in front of the Metro Courthouse. And I want you, your friends and family to join me. Since this is a 5K walk and run, this event is ideal for individuals of all fitness levels.

In preparation for this 3.1-mile event, we’re hosting a free, nine-week training program that kicks off this Saturday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. at the new McCabe Park Community Center, 101 46th Avenue North. We’ll also be celebrating the grand opening of this 25,000-square-foot facility, which includes a gymnasium, fitness center, indoor walking track, and other amenities.

Starting this Saturday, training sessions for the 5K also will be held at Shelby Bottoms Nature Center, Antioch Community Center and Hadley Park Community Center. Visit our Facebook at www.facebook.com/mayorschallenge5k to view the complete training schedule.

You can participate in the Mayor’s Challenge 5K Walk/Run as an individual or a team.
It’s more important than ever for all of us to get serious about improving our health. And I hope you’ll find this 5K challenge as a fun and inspiring way to be active.

Sincerely,

Karl F. Dean
Mayor
