To: All Metro Employees
In 2011, I invited each of you to join me in an effort to be more healthy and active. For those of you who participated, we had a lot of fun as we discovered and explored the many wonderful parks and greenways that Nashville has to offer in my Walk 100 Miles challenge.
Next, we took it up a notch with my 5K Challenge walk/run. Together these events engaged nearly 10,000 people in our efforts to tackle the obesity epidemic affecting the health of our city and our nation. Tennessee has the country’s fourth-highest childhood obesity rate. The numbers are equally distressing in Nashville where 38.1 percent of our youth are either obese or overweight.
On May 5, 2012, I am offering another fun way for your family, friends, and neighbors to be active with the first-ever “Mayor’s Field Day with the Tennessee Titans”. This event will take place on LP Field Saturday, May 5 starting at 9 a.m. The event will feature numerous on-field games in a relaxed tournament-style format as well as an obstacle course and an educational fitness fair.
Field Day is entirely free and open to the public. Adults and youth 5 years old and up of all fitness levels are invited to come play where the Titans play. The event is hosted in partnership with the Tennessee Titans, and current and former Titans players will be there along with Titans cheerleaders and Titans mascot T-Rac.
I encourage you to either participate or volunteer at Mayor’s Field Day and invite your family and friends to join you. Registration and event details can be found at www.mayorsfieldday.com or contact Laurel Creech in my office at 862-6030.
I look forward to seeing you on the field May 5th!
